Things to Do at Peninsula State Park

It’s easy to fill your itinerary with a variety of outdoor sports and activities when you visit Peninsula State Park. No matter the season, you’ll find the perfect things to do, including unique activities like watching a live theater performance under the stars! Below, we crafted the ultimate guide to make your Peninsula State Park excursion an unforgettable part of your vacation in Door County.

1. Visit the White Cedar Nature Center

Learn about the park and all critters that live there with a visit to the White Cedar Nature Center. Participate in the Like to Hike challenge and collect pins as you complete activities in the park. You can also pick up some hiking gear before heading out or take home a souvenir to remember your time in Door County.

2. Biking in Peninsula State Park

Imagine rolling down a path with a slight breeze and peaceful sounds of birds as you make your way through the park. Biking on the Sunset Bike Path is a popular way to explore the forest. The path is nearly 10 miles long, can accommodate hikers, and it’s wheelchair accessible. You can rent a bike in the park at Nicolet Beach Rentals.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can ride on the off-road bike trails. They cover 12 miles of rugged land. However, you must come prepared and have a State Trail Pass if you’re older than 16. You can buy one on-site or online. A state trail pass is not required for walking or hiking.

3. Hiking in Peninsula State Park

Take a hike on the Eagle Trail and discover an ancient cave. This particular trail is for experienced hikers, but you can also choose one of the park’s many easy or moderate paths. Choose from a dozen hiking trails that cover 20 miles of the peninsula.

4. Golfing in Peninsula State Park

Get a hole in one when you golf on the 18-hole golf course or the 6-hole learning short course. Challenge yourself when you try out the 69-yard drive going off of a 50-foot cliff. Schedule your trip between April and October to use the golf course.

5. Take a Tour of the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse

Between May and October, you can explore the lighthouse that guided vessels through the Strawberry Channel. The lighthouse was manned from 1868 to 1926. A visit to the incredible Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is a must for the history buffs!

6. Wintertime Sports in Peninsula State Park

You can still enjoy the park, even when it’s cold out. Try cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, or sledding. The park has ski trails for any skill level, and you need a State Trail Pass if you’d like to try them. It’s the perfect wintertime activity, and you can always take a break in the warming house!

7. Northern Sky Theater

It’s not every day you encounter a state park that not only has outdoor recreation but also offers theater performances! You can catch a Northern Sky Theater performance every night except for Sundays between mid-June and mid-August.
